Restore Damaged And Missing Teeth With Lifelike Restorations

Whether you’ve lost one or more of your teeth or you have a damaged tooth that’s causing you pain and discomfort, Dr. Jonathan Bookout and the team at The Legacy Dental Group are here to help. With porcelain crowns and dental bridges in Evans, GA, you can restore the natural function of your teeth, smile proudly again, and protect your teeth from further complications.

What’s A Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are typically made out of tooth-colored porcelain or ceramic materials. Basically, a crown (sometimes called a “cap”) is a hollow false tooth. Crowns are designed to fit perfectly over a damaged tooth, covering it up and protecting it from further damage.

Typically, a dental crown will be recommended if you have a large cavity, to restore a tooth after a root canal, or to repair a tooth that’s been cracked or broken due to dental trauma. They are sometimes used for cosmetic purposes, too, but this is not as common.

Understanding Dental Bridges

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. A single dental bridge can typically replace 1-3 missing teeth. Bridges use two dental crowns that attach to healthy teeth on either side of the gap in your smile. These are called “abutment teeth.”

Then, between the abutment teeth, one or more false teeth (pontics) are suspended over the gap in your smile. This “bridges” the gap, giving this restoration its name. The crowns and false teeth are typically made from tooth-colored porcelain, but bridges may also have some plastic or metal components.

The Benefits Of Dental Crowns And Bridges

Natural look and feel

At Legacy Dental Group, we use tooth-colored ceramic crowns and bridges that match your natural teeth. Dr. Bookout will work closely with you to design a restoration that fits into your smile perfectly. After your crown or bridge is in place, you may even forget that you have a dental restoration at all!

Long-lasting results

Both dental crowns and bridges are long-lasting solutions for damaged and missing teeth. They typically last at least 10-15 years, and can last even longer with good at-home oral hygiene and regular checkups from Dr. Bookout.

Easy care

Dental crowns require minimal care. Just brush and floss normally, and make sure to see Dr. Bookout for checkups every six months.

Bridges need a bit more special care, such as brushing and flossing underneath the bridge, but are still much more convenient than alternatives like removable partial dentures.

Prevent complications

Crowns are ideal for covering up and protecting damaged teeth. With a crown, you can prevent complications like continued decay, tooth infections, and more.

Bridges also help protect your oral health. Once in place, dental bridges prevent the adjacent teeth from shifting, which is a common issue after tooth loss. This prevents tooth misalignment that can ruin your smile and your bite.

What To Expect From The Crown Or Bridge Placement Process

  • Extraction (if needed) – If you’re getting a bridge to replace a damaged tooth, it must be extracted before you can replace it. This will be done in a separate appointment at The Legacy Dental Group, if necessary.
  • Preparing your teeth – At your appointment, Dr. Bookout will begin by cleaning and numbing the treatment area. Then, he will trim away any damaged material from your tooth if you’re getting a dental crown and reshape it to prepare for crown fitting. If you’re getting a bridge, he will trim away some enamel from the abutment teeth. These are the teeth that are on either side of your missing tooth that will support the final bridge.
  • Digital scans and crown or bridge fitting – Once he has trimmed and prepared your teeth, Dr. Bookout will take digital impressions of them using a handheld scanner. This creates a 3D model that he will use to design your new crown or bridge.

  • Crafting your dental restoration – Next, Dr. Bookout will place a temporary crown or bridge on your teeth and send you home. He will work with our partner dental lab to design and build your crown or bridge. It will typically take 2-3 weeks for your final dental restoration to arrive at our office.
  • Final crown or bridge placement – When your crown or bridge arrives, you’ll come into The Legacy Dental Group for one final visit with Dr. Bookout. He will remove your temporary crown or bridge, then check the fit of your permanent restoration. He can make any last-minute adjustments if necessary. Then, Dr. Bookout will bond your new bridge or crown into place permanently, restoring your smile and your bite.
